Elizabeth Bennett Denson wife of William Howard Childs
Elizabeth Childs attended the schools at the Cape and at the close of the Civil War was married on Oct, 7, 1866. They resided for a few years at Sandwich and then went to North Attleboro where they lived 33 years. Forty-two years ago they came to W. Somerville. Mrs. Childs had been a member of Willard C. Kinsley Woman's Relief Corps, No. 21 for more than a quarter of a century and was a past treasurer of the corps. She was a member of Constellation Lodge, United Order of Old Ladies and a member of the Past Ladies Association of Waltham. Elizabeth Childs was in her usual good health on May 28, 1920, making a trip to Boston and returning home about noon. She retired early in the evening and shortly before midnight was stricken ill and died within a short time. Funeral services were held at her home. The Woman's Relief Corps conducted the service, the ritual being carried out under the direction of the chaplain, Mrs. Mary Knowles. After the service the body was taken to Sandwich, where committal serves were held at the grave in Bay View cemetery. There was a profusion of floral tributes from the organizations of which she was a member and from neighbors and friends.
